Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. A combination of technique and strategy, BJJ is commonly referred to as human chess, combining an amazing workout, with incredible self-defence skills.
Training consists of a warm-up (strength, conditioning and flexibility) followed by learning new techniques and finally, sparring i.e. “light fighting”
We have a number of BJJ options:
BJJ Bootcamp: The perfect beginner’s class for someone who has no previous experience in Jiu-Jitsu. This class provides the time to learn the basic moves, familiarise yourself with the common warm-up and invite you into the chess game of fitness as you begin your BJJ Journey.
Beginners: In the beginner’s classes you will learn basic takedowns, submissions, sweeps and self-defence, as well as increasing your fitness and mobility.
Women’s only: This is a women’s only class that is taught in gi and is all-levels, instructed by a badass woman – Coach Joanna.
BJJ Int/Adv: The intermediate / advanced classes are for students who have been training for more than 12 months. The layout of the class is similar to the beginner’s with more focus on sparring and covering intricate techniques. You will learn more advanced attacks and escapes and how to chain them into combinations, as well as more advanced concepts; like pressure and leverage and how to best use them.
Comp Class: In the competition classes, we train in a way that resembles a BJJ competition as closely as possible. The students work on strategies; like combinations, and tournament techniques. There is a heavy focus on sparring.
Takedowns:Our takedown class is where students from all disciplines can learn how to wrestle. After a very thorough warm-up, we work on takedowns and takedown defence followed by some live sparring and specific drills. All levels are welcome.
